- 1. The standard format will be the two-person scramble where each individual's tee shot must be used at least four (4 ) times. Any couple failing to complete this requirement will be ineligible to receive 1st/2nd place prizes or skins, however they are eligible for closest to the pin prizes. Additionally, the score will not count towards their handicap.
2. You may play from the tee of your choice, and may switch back-and-forth during the round, however, men cannot play from the forward tees. Should both tee shots result in a penalty (due to lost ball) and the next shot is played from the same drop area, the decision on whose drive was used can be delayed until the end of the round.
3. "Whiffs", where there is no ball contact, do not count as strokes, except in a bunker if your club strikes the sand.
4. Maximum score on any hole is double par. On any hole that you decide to pick up, and not hole-out (assuming putts have not been conceded), your score for that hole should be double-par.
5. Any shot played from off the green may be played by both players up to one club length from the location of the ball that is to be played, however, not closer to the hole. If the ball is in a hazard (e.g.water, bushes, rocks, red-staked area, etc), then the club length must allow for the ball to remain in the hazard, or incur a penalty as a non-playable lie.
6. Ball may be moved slightly on the green (no nearer the hole) to avoid a pitch mark or other damage on the green.
7. When playing from the sand, all players may place their ball within one club length (not nearer the hole) of the ball being played.
8. Putts may be conceded at the discretion of the other couple in the foursome, however it will still count as a stroke.
9. For the closest to the pin contest, the tee shot/ball must come to rest entirely on the green. It will not matter whether that tee shot is used on that hole. Measurements should be made from the edge of the ball closest to the pin to the nearest edge of the cup (not the middle of the cup).
10. Unless a rainout is declared, once a couple completes four holes, their fees will be applied to the prize pot regardless of whether they complete the round. If a rainout is declared, then all fees will be returned.
10.1. During inclement weather, prizes will be awarded, including Closest to the pin, if at least 60% of the scheduled couples on that course played all 9 holes. (Fractions will follow the standard rounding rules; e.g 4.8 will round to 5.) In this case, the prizes for the individual course(s) will be calculated using only the fees collected on that course.
10.2. If a couple cannot complete a round, they will be given a score equivalent to a BOGEY for each hole not played, provided that at least 7 holes were completed. If less than 7 holes were played, then rule 10 will apply.
11. Handicaps for each couple will be calculated by averaging strokes vs par for the best 5 of the last 10 completed rounds by the couple. If more than 5, but less than 10 rounds have been played, then the handicap will be based on the best 5 rounds completed. Decimals will be rounded to the nearest full number: i.e., 3.49 rounds to 3, while 3.50 rounds to 4. Effective May 1, 2014, anyone with a handicap less than zero will have strokes ADDED to their score for the amount that they are less than zero (using basic rounding principles).
- 11.1 Effective 1/1/23, any couple who has not played at least once during a rolling 6-month (26 consecutive weeks) time frame will lose the handicap they have and be reset back to 80%. Five (5) rounds will be necessary to establish a new handicap.
12. Players without 5 rounds completed will be given a temporary (for that round only), handicap equivalent to 80% of the difference between par and their 9 hole score. Once 5 rounds are completed, a handicap will be assigned based on the 5 rounds as listed in #11 above.
13. Rounds that are not completed, for any reason, will not count towards the handicap.
14. Individual players (not part of a mixed couple) are eligible for only the closest-to-the-pin prize (with an entry fee of $1.) Any fees collected from individual players will be added only to the closest-to-the-pin prize pot.
15. The use of distance measuring devices (golf buddy, skycaddie, rangefinders, etc) is permitted.
- Special rules for play on courses with 2 cups on each hole:
- -Each hole has 2 cups (holes), one 6-inch and one standard (regulation) 4-1/4 inch cup. Only the standard 4-1/4 inch cup will be used for scoring.
-If a tee shot lands in the 6 inch cup, while you may claim a Hole in One with the Villages, it will not count as a hole in one for our purposes (i.e., score and hole in one pool).
-If the ball lands in the 6-inch cup from any stroke off the green, it may be replayed without penalty, including tee shots, or alternatively, placed one putter length away from the 6 inch hole (not closer to standard hole) and counted as a stroke.
-If the 6 inch cup is in the putting line to the regulation hole, the ball may be moved one putter length to either side so as to avoid the 6 inch hole while putting.
- If the ball lands in the 6-inch cup from a putt (on the green), it counts as a stroke, and should be removed from the hole and placed within one putter length from the hole, but no closer to the standard hole. - Suggested changes to any of the above rules may be submitted via email to the Commissioner (that's me).
